Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 20, 2026

Tab is designed to work without an account. Your food logs, goals, and recipes are stored on your device and synced privately through your personal iCloud account — we never see them.

What data Tab uses

Tab uses the following data, all of which stays on your device or in your private iCloud account unless explicitly noted:

Apple HealthKit

Tab requests access to Apple Health to read your resting and active energy data and to write dietary nutrition samples when you log food. This integration is entirely optional and can be declined or revoked at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy → Health → Tab.

Health data is used only to calculate your personalized calorie budget (dynamic activity mode) and to keep your Health app in sync with your logs. Health data is never shared with third parties and never leaves your device except through Apple's own encrypted HealthKit framework.

iCloud sync

Tab uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your data across your own devices using your personal iCloud account. This means your data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, and is stored in your private iCloud container — not on our servers. We have no ability to access your food logs or goals.

iCloud sync requires that you be signed in to iCloud on your device. If you are not signed in, data remains local only.

Food search (fatsecret)

When you search for foods or scan a barcode, Tab queries the fatsecret Platform API via our backend proxy. Search queries (food names, barcodes) are transmitted to fatsecret's servers to retrieve nutrition data. fatsecret's privacy practices are described in their Privacy Policy. We do not share your personal information with fatsecret — queries are anonymous.

Photo recognition (Tab Premium) uses the same fatsecret API and transmits the image you select to fatsecret's servers for analysis. Images are not stored by us and are handled according to fatsecret's privacy policy.

Customer support (Crisp)

When you use the in-app chat or visit tabcalorietracker.com/support, Tab uses Crisp to power the support chat. Messages you send are stored by Crisp and visible to Tab's support team. Crisp's data practices are described in their Privacy Policy.

We use support conversations only to respond to your questions — never for marketing purposes.

Subscriptions and purchases

Tab Premium subscriptions and lifetime purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We do not have access to your payment information. Purchase receipts are validated through Apple's servers. See Apple's Privacy Policy for details on how Apple handles transaction data.

Analytics and advertising

Tab does not include any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or tracking libraries. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

Children's privacy

Tab is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information through the app, please contact us so we can address it.

Data deletion

You can delete all your data from Tab at any time by deleting the app. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. To also delete data from iCloud, go to iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Tab → Delete Data.

To request deletion of any support chat history held by Crisp, contact us at tabcalorietracker.com/support.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Tab after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
